Winner of the Grand Prix and Queer Palm Award of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, 120 Beats Per Minute is one of the most heartbreakingly engaging films of the year. Director Robert Campillo follows the success of his previous film Eastern Boys with this ambitious film based on his personal experience as a member of the AIDS activist group ACT UP in the early 1990s. With AIDS having already claimed countless lives for nearly ten years, Act Up-Paris activists plan various actions to fight against the government, the pharmacy and general indifference. When Nathan joins the group as a new member, his world is gradually shaken up by Sean, a radical militant, when they start to develop feelings for each other.
