Androgynous Phoenix Du (Peace Yang), the illegitimate daughter of a presidential candidate, kills the thug who broke into her apartment to silence her. Assigned to her case is prosecutor Jade Liu  (Weng Chia-wei), still guilt-ridden from the suicide of her brother and her strict Catholic upbringing. They share a night of passion that ends up changing the course of their lives – before Jade demands a three and a half year sentence for Phoenix for manslaughter. From prison, Phoenix writes Jade hundreds of letters and begs her to wait for her release. But in fear of her own desire, Jade marries Meng Ye, the genderless young man she saved from prison who reminds her of her brother.
